I must admit that I was always hesitant about geodesic domes. I understood they were built for functionality and not looks, but I still went down the path of buying better looking metal chicken tractors to cater for my chicken retail business.

About 6 months ago I was lucky enough to be provided with a dome for display purposes from GD Domes. The time-consuming construction of the geo-domes also put me off as I am always time poor.

However, after taking part in the construction of the GD Dome at my property I realised that this new system has made putting a dome together so quick and easy. With the specialised colour-coded connectors and everything provided for the framework it is much easier than putting together a chook tractor!

Once it was all put together and the mesh fitted I put four hens into the dome to test it out. It didn't take me long to realise that the floor space is so much more plentiful for the flock and I can even stand up in the middle.

Moving it is also lightweight and easy to drag to the fresh grass every few days. The hens were healthy and happy with their fresh grass and spacious new home which also included a perch and hanging nest box.
